Description

These blog posts come from a personal blog of mine that centers around my love of anime and the culture surrounding it. For a time, I posted quick posts on the anime series I was watching at the time. These posts are fun and off the cuff thoughts of my initial reaction to the shows.

The World God Only Knows

So I just finished up both seasons of “The World God Only Knows”.
Keima the main character, is a pro when it comes to dating games. He
eats, sleeps, and breathes games. He even plays them in class which I
thought was hilarious! Even though Keima is a boss at dating within
his games, he’s kind of a loser in real life =/

This show is mainly a comedy but I think there is a serious underlying
theme that they have only hinted at. The reason why Keima plays his
games so much is because he doesn’t have anything to look forward
to in the real world. I can totally understand that because I sometimes
feel that way, but I’ll watch anime instead. The games are his escape,
like a drug almost.

Keima does have sort of a sidekick who is actually a demon..who
hunts demons. She was attracted to Keima because of his pro gaming
skills, thinking that he is this way in real life. She needs his help to
capture rogue demons and the only way to do that is to make the
women the demons are possessing fall in love with him. I won’t get
into the details of the series because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone
but I will say it’s worth a watch. I just found out that there will be a
third season airing next month 🙂

“The real world is just a crappy game, the ideal world can only be
found within a game” -Keima Katsuragi

Yu Yu Hakusho

So I’m feeling like some ‘old school’ this week! I decided to watch my
best friend’s favorite anime of all time. He always talks about it and
after watching it I can’t blame him.

I was first introduced to Yu Yu Hakusho in the ’90’s on Cartoon
Network’s Toonami. Back then I was more concerned with Dragonball
Z, so I never watched the entire Yu Yu Hakusho series. I’ve onlv
watched the beginning but boy was I glad I did! This show has
everything that I look for in a series. It had a good story and I
immediately liked the main characters. I loved Yusuke’s one-liners and
Kuwabara was so funny. There was a nice balance of comedy and
action. The most important thing though, was the fact that the show
actually ended. It didn’t get cancelled, it didn’t leave off with a
cliffhanger, nor was the ending over the top. The ending was very
realistic. It wasn’t a happily ever after or death to all type of ending;
simply realistic.

With modern shows it’s hard to find a series like this one. I really wish
more writers would realize that you don’t have to have a happily ever
after ending but you don’t have to create the most random things just
because you don’t want the series to be predictable. Everyone doesn’t
have to die at the end either. I prefer a good story, rather than several
twists thrown in randomly(meaning they do nothing to push the story
along). Even within your fictional world there are rules. Rules YOU
created by the way. I know It’s fake but it should still be believable
within that fictional universe.

sigh Can’t beat the classics I quess:(

Angel Beats

Errrrrrrrmmaaageerrrddd! This one…hit me right in the feels :”(
Angel Beats definitely caught me off guard! I didn’t think it would be
so0oo good! Okay so the main character, wakes up at an unknown
school. He has no memories and is immediately asked to join the “Not
Dead Yet Battlefront”, by a girl who is packing a sniper rifle. The show
is already off to a good start lol

The Battlefront is comprised of a group of teens who are trying to
figure out why they are at this school and what exactly they are
supposed to do here. I just love a show that makes you ask questions
and wonder what’s going on. This show was only 13 episodes but I
really liked the pacing. Often times I’ll watch a short series and the last
two episodes are really rushed but this one was perfect. You get small
bits of information as time goes along.

I really liked the characters. You had your usual peeps but there were
all kinds of personalities in this group. Oh man I can’t say too much
because its such a short series but there is a really nice concept
behind this series. Yes I did cry but they were more tears of joy than
sorrow.

Hint: Watch the last episode all the way through, past the
credits 🙂
